Wesley College OBA UK held its Annual Lunch in aid of Wesley College Colombo – educational project, on Sunday 21stOctober 2012, which was well subscribed and was very successful in raising funds for the Alma Mater. His Excellency, Dr Chris Nonis, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner for UK, was the Chief Guest, along with other distinguished guests.

His Excellency, Dr Nonis, spoke of the importance of supporting the college and was pleased to see the loyal Old Wesleyites at the lunch. Dr Ananda Thevathasan welcomed His Excellency and the guests and pointed out that Wesley College is a well-established Institution and has produced many distinguished people who excelled in politics, sports and public life. Mr Nalin Perera – President of WC OBA UK, stressed the importance of thanking the college in Colombo, as it gave a foundation for our character and the importance of gaining the confidence to execute a variety of activities to excel in life.

There were many loyal Old Boys, who graced the occasion and the President stressed the importance of young and senior Old Boys working together to support the Alma Mater. Mr Nalin Perera, initiated the special award scheme in 2009 to recognise the achievements and contributions to the association and the recipients over the past few years are:

2010 – Dr Ananda Thevathasan & Mr Azahim Mohamed.

2011 – Mr Paul David, Mr Rex Devadasan and Mr Nalin Perera.

2012 – Mr Senthil Sinniah, Mr Brian Mack.

Mr S Rama Krishnan and Mr Layton Vanderputt.

The awards were presented by HC Dr Chris Nonis. The success of the event was due to the hard work spearheaded by the President Mr Nalin Perera and was supported by the Executive Committee comprising of Mr N Jeganathan, Mr Lahir Ismail, Mr Janakan Solomon, Dr Ananda Thevathasan, Mr Rex Devadasan, Mr Azahim Mohamed, Mr Alagaratnam Arooran, Tyrone Namasivayam and Mr Ghanzanfar Hameed.

We take this opportunity to thank all our Advertisers, Sri Lankan Airlines, Mr Sanjika Perera, Grange Hotel Management, Mr T Jayasinghe and all other donors of raffle prizes. We thank the management of the Rising Sun Restaurant for the excellent food and Manju for the music.

The event concluded by singing of the college song, Sri Lankan National Anthem and the British Anthem.
